Design By Them's I'll Be Happy When #8 brought the Sydney design community into its Alexandria showroom for an evening of talks, conversation and Australian furniture design. Returning to photograph I’ll Be Happy When

DesignByThem invited us back to photograph its annual I’ll Be Happy When event at the Alexandria showroom on 10 September 2026. Hosted by founders Sarah Gibson and Nicholas Karlovasitis, the evening featured Adam Goodrum and Hannah Tribe sharing their experiences of creativity, productivity and the question of when a piece of work feels finished.

The photography brief called for candid event coverage and images of the guest speakers with the co-founders, continuing the approach from the previous year. We photographed the speakers, audience reactions, conversations and details of the showroom, bringing the people and furniture into the same record of the evening. Coverage moved between the talks and the moments around them, including portraits requested for the brand’s event wrap-up.

The gallery was delivered for DesignByThem’s follow-up communications, with photographs appearing in its published recap and requested for its email.

A short social video recap formed part of the commission alongside the edited photography, giving the team still and moving images from the evening.
